Description
Hardwax Oil is a natural alternative to polyurethane floor coatings. A durable satin finish made from plant oils and waxes, Hardwax Oil is a two to three coat system. Almost odourless and safe for man, animal and plant when dry. Osmo Hardwax Oil penetrates into solid timber, parquet, particle board and cork, filling the substrate to the surface. It enhances the beauty of timber with minimal darkening. Imported from Germany, Hardwax Oil performs well on most New Zealand timbers, it is a high solid, concentrated product with good coverage, making it economical to use. One 2.5L Osmo will finish a 30sqm floor area (2 coats). Apply sparingly by floor brush or microfibre roller. A ‘Rapid’ version is available (click here), enabling two coats to be applied in one day. Osmo ‘Rapid’ is also recommended for hi resin timbers such as Matai in colder (Winter) drying conditions.
Osmo Polyx Oil is imported from Germany and provides an attractive, ‘grain fill’ finish, similar to our NZ made Java High Solid

Polyx Oil is available in 2 types – Normal or Rapid. The Rapid Polyx Oil should not be used except in cold conditions when curing time may be an issue. Generally, the Rapid Polyx Oil will cure faster, with 2 coats often able to be applied on the same day.
The finish for both products is identical.
Preparation: The surface must be dry, clean and free of grease (moisture content max 20%). Special care should be taken to remove any dust from the pores of the timber. Fill all small holes or surface dents with wood filler. Clean or lightly sand any existing oil finish. Completely remove any existing varnish coating.
New Surfaces : Sand the surface to a fine finish, 120-150 grade paper is recommended. Carefully remove any dust.
Renovated Surfaces : Old, well preserved coatings should be given a light sand. Apply 1 to 2 coats of Osmo Hardwax Oil. Old damaged and weathered coatings should be completely removed and then treated as a new surface.
Application: Apply sparingly and evenly along the wood grain with a good quality bristle floor or hand brush. As this product has an extremely high solid content (like apple sauce), the finish must be applied sparingly and worked to a thin even coating. Remove any excess of finish immediately. Leave to dry overnight (12 hours). Coverage approx 24-30 sqm/L. The temperature should be between 8 and 20 degC. Allow good ventilation. Apply the second coat as for the first. Leave to dry 24 hours with good ventilation provided. Treat the floor with care as it continues to harden for 14 days. Do not wet mop for the first two weeks while the floor cures to a waterproof finish.
Safety: Keep out of reach of children. Do not pour oil residue into the sewer. Let the remnants dry out and dispose of with your domestic rubbish collection, flammable products’. Do not crumple soaked rags (otherwise spontaneous combustion may occur).
Composition: Sunflower oil, Thistle oil, Soyabean oil, Candelilla wax, Carnauba wax, disaromatized benzolefree solvent.
